The 21st General Assembly of Aosdána took place yesterday with six new members elected to the affiliation of creative artists.
The new members are: poet Moya Cannon, novelist and poet John F Deane, poet Trevor Joyce, visual artist Eileen MacDonagh, playwright Jimmy Murphy and visual artist Geraldine O'Reilly.
One of the motions adopted at the Assembly was a proposal to extend the categories of membership to include architects and choreographers while the status of film makers as artists in their own right was endorsed.
During the Assembly, the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, John O'Donoghue, addressed members and was guest of honour at the Assembly lunch.
