Johansson set for The Black Dahlia

Scarlett Johansson is to star in the big screen adaptation of James Ellroy's classic crime novel 'The Black Dahlia'.

The film is based on the murder of an actress in Los Angeles in 1947 and subsequent investigation.

It follows two detectives (Josh Hartnett and Mark Wahlberg) who are obsessed with tracking down the killer and become trapped in a web of corruption.

Variety reports that Johansson is to play Kay, the object of both men's affections.

Shooting is set to begin on 24 May in Los Angeles.

Johansson can currently be seen on Irish screens in 'Lost in Translation' and 'Girl with a Pearl Earring'.
