Lord of the Rings top for New York critics

'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' was named Best Picture of the year by the New York Film Critics Circle.

Sofia Coppola took Best Director for 'Lost in Translation' and that film's star, Bill Murray, was named Best Actor.

Best Actress went to Hope Davis for her performances in 'American Splendor' and 'The Secret Lives of Dentists'.

Eugene Levy ('A Mighty Wind') and Shohreh Aghdashloo (House of Sand and Fog) were winners in the Best Supporting Actor and Actress categories and Brazilian movie 'City of God' was named Best Foreign Film.

The New York Film Critics Circle has been issuing awards since 1935 and is composed of 35 New York-based film critics from daily newspapers, weekly newspapers and magazines.
