Calendar Girls scoops comedy award

'Calendar Girls', starring Helen Mirren and Julie Walters as Yorkshire WI members doing the full Monty for charity, won Best Comedy Film at last night's British Comedy Awards ceremony.

Regarded as the Oscars of the comedy world, the awards have developed a reputation for outrageous star behaviour.

Last night's show was relatively sedate affair with host Jonathan Ross finally winning an award for his chat show.

Best Comedy Actor went to 'I'm Alan Partridge' star Steve Coogan, and impressionist Ronni Ancona was named Best Comedy Actress.

Ant and Dec won Best Comedy Entertainment Personalities, while 'Cold Feet' took the Best Comedy Drama category.

'Coupling' was named Best TV Comedy, 'My New Best Friend' Best New TV Comedy, and 'Little Britain's David Walliams won Best Comedy Newcomer.
