Good Bye, Lenin! winner at European Film Awards

'Good Bye, Lenin!' swept the boards at the European Film Awards on Saturday, taking six prizes at the 16th annual competition.

The bittersweet German comedy took Best Film, Best Screenwriter and Best Actor for star Daniel Bruhl at the ceremony in Berlin.

It also won three People's Choice awards for Best Directing, Best Actress for Katrin Sass and a second Best Actor award for Daniel Bruhl at the contest sometimes called the European Oscars.

Britain's Charlotte Rampling took Best Actress for the Anglo-French film 'Swimming Pool'.

'Dogville', by Danish director Lars von Trier and starring Nicole Kidman, won Best Director and Best Cinematography.

'Good Bye, Lenin!' has won a series of prizes this year, including the Berlinale and the German Film Prize and is now tipped for a Best Foreign Film Oscar nomination in January 2004.
