Buyers compete over Lennon killer LP

A John Lennon album signed for his killer Mark Chapman just hours before he shot the former Beatle, has attracted several potential buyers.

The album, "Double Fantasy", on sale for $525,000, is being sold by the man who originally found it outside Lennon's apartment building near New Yorks Central Park.

Lennon was assassinated in 1980 outside the building where he lived with his wife Yoko Ono.

The record sleeve bears the signature of John Lennon and is dated 1980. The cover and dust jacket contain forensically enhanced fingerprints of Chapman which were used as evidence in his trial.

Autograph dealer Gary Zimet said "the response has been mind-boggling", dding that his website had received 85,000 hits since the sale was announced on Friday morning.
