Stars turn out for Mandela concert

Bono, The Corrs and Bob Geldof were among the top acts headlining Nelson Mandela's hugely successful AIDS Day Concert in Capetown.

The concert was part of the '46664' campaign launched by Mandela, in the hope of creating awareness of HIV and AIDS through music.

An estimated crowd of 40,000 packed into the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town for the fund-raising concert on Saturday.

The concert, broadcast live on 'www.46664.com', was reported to have attracted one of the largest audiences ever for an on-line broadcast.

Mandela named the concert '46664' in rememberance of his prison identity number during his 18 years on Robben Island.

The concert will be screened across the world by MTV today.
