Salma Hayek is to star opposite Colin Farrell in the big screen adaptation of John Fante's classic novel 'Ask the Dust'.
Set during The Depression, Variety reports that the Robert Towne-directed film tells the story of the fractious relationship between a Mexican woman (Hayek) who wants to marry a wealthy American and an aspiring first-generation Italian writer (Farrell).
Shooting is set to begin next year in South Africa.
Hayek is currently shooting the heist caper 'After the Sunset' with Pierce Brosnan, Farrell's new film, the action movie 'SWAT', opens on Irish screens on 5 December.
