Metallica collaborator Kamen dies

Michael Kamen, the Oscar-nominated composer who also worked with Metallica on their 'S&M' opus, has died.

Kamen, who was 55, had been battling multiple sclerosis for several years.

Born in Queens, New York, Kamen scored ballets, worked as musical director for David Bowie's 'Diamond Dogs' tour and began composing soundtracks in the 1970s.

His credits included the 'Die Hard' and 'Lethal Weapon' series, the 'Band of Brothers' miniseries, 'X-Men' and the Bond movie 'Licence to Kill'.

He was Oscar-nominated for his work on the soundtracks to 'Don Juan DeMarco' and 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves'.

In 1999 Kamen joined forces with Metallica to conduct the San Francisco Orchestra for the band's 'S&M' concerts and live album.
