Police in California say Michael Jackson has been charged with 'multiple counts' of child molestation.
He has been given time to surrender himself as well as his passport.
Bail has been set at $3m.
Earlier, as police searched the singer's Neverland ranch in Santa Barbara, his lawyer said the move was connected to allegations of sexual abuse brought by a 12-year-old boy.
