The long list for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award has been announced.
125 titles have been nominated by 162 libraries, representing 125 cities from 47 countries.
Among the Irish authors on the long list are: John Banville ('Shroud'), Sebastian Barry ('Annie Dunne'), Michael Collins ('The Resurrectionists'), Joseph O'Connor ('Star of the Sea') and William Trevor ('The Story of Lucy Gault').
Other authors on the list include: Isabel Allende, AS Byatt, JM Coetzee, Umberto Eco, past winner Michel Houellebecq, Joyce Carol Oates and Zadie Smith.
The shortlist will be announced in March 2004 with the winner of the €100,000 award named three months later.
