Service remembers author Bielenberg

A thanksgiving service for the life of author Christabel Bielenberg, who died on Sunday aged 94, has been held.

A packed St Columba's Church in Tullow, Co Carlow heard her described as a remarkable woman.

Christabel Bielenberg's book, 'The Past is Myself', which was turned into a television series, recounted her husband Peter's involvement in the famed attempt on Hitler's life in 1944.

During the service members of her family read extracts from 'The Past is Myself' and the sequel, 'The Road Ahead'.

Captain Michael Tracey, Aide de Camp to President McAleese attended the service today, as did many of the German children that Christabel Bielenberg brought on holiday to Ireland after the Second World War.

The author is survived by her three sons and her 26 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
