Girls Aloud member Tweedy in court

Girls Aloud member Cheryl Tweedy has been in court in Surrey this morning charged with punching a female toilet attendant in a nightclub.

Tweedy denies racially aggravated assault causing actual bodily harm. The incident is alleged to have taken place at The Drink nightclub in Guilford where Sophie Amogbokpa worked as a toilet attendant.

Amogbokpa claims that Tweedy and her bandmate Nicola Roberts took some items from the display but refused to pay for them.

She also alleges that when asked for the money Tweedy became aggressive and began shouting racist insults at her, while behaving violently.

Amogobokpa acknowledged that Roberts tried to restrain Tweedy and, failing this, sought help from a member of security.
