Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice has won the prestigious Shortlist Music Prize in the US for his debut album 'O'.
He saw off competition from the likes of The Streets, Cat Power, The Black Keys, Cody ChesnuTT, Floetry, Interpol, Sigur Ros, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Bright Eyes.
Rice was presented with the award and later performed live at the ceremony in Los Angeles last night.
The ten finalists were chosen from a 'longlist' of 86 nominees by a panel of judges, including Coldplay singer Chris Martin, Tom Waits, Flea, Tori Amos, Perry Farrell and directors Spike Jonze and Cameron Crowe.
