Sheridan movie on awards shortlist

'In America', the new movie from Irish director Jim Sheridan, has been nominated in a number of categories for this year's British Independent Film Awards.

Sheridan has made the Best Director shortlist and faces competition from Danny Boyle ('28 Days Later'), Stephen Frears ('Dirty Pretty Things'), David MacKenzie ('Young Adam') and Michael Winterbottom ('In This World').

'In America's stars Paddy Considine and Samantha Morton have been nominated in the Best Actor and Actress Categories.

The film opens on Irish screens on 31 October.
