Action legend Charles Bronson dies

The actor Charles Bronson has died in Los Angeles at the age of 81.

Bronson, whose most acclaimed films included 'The Magnificent Seven', 'The Great Escape' and 'Once Upon a Time in the West', died on Saturday of pneumonia at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre with his wife Kim at his bedside.

He had reportedly been suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

Born Charles Buchinsky in Pennsylvania in 1921, Bronson worked as a miner and turned to acting after military service in the Second World War.

His Hollywood career spanned five decades and included such films as 'The House of Wax', 'The Dirty Dozen', the controversial 'Death Wish' series and Sean Penn's directorial debut, 'The Indian Runner'.
