Johnny Cash was unable to attend the MTV Awards last night after being admitted to hospital in Nashville.
Cash is being treated for an unspecified stomach ailment; his condition is described as stable.
A hospital spokesperson said that the country legend was being held for observation and his release was expected in a few days.
Cash's manager, Lou Robin, said the singer still planned to go to Los Angeles next week to record a new album with producer Rick Rubin.
