Margaret Atwood, Graham Swift and Martin Amis are amongst the authors named on the longlist of books for the 2003 Man Booker Prize for Fiction today.
The 23-strong longlist was chosen from a grand total of 117 entries.
Chair of judges, Professor John Carey, said: "This is a strong and diverse longlist, with a pleasing component of new names. It reflects the passionate preferences of the individual judges, and it will be very tough reducing it to a shortlist."
The 2003 shortlist will be announced on Tuesday 16 September, with an awards ceremony at the British Museum, London to announce the winner on Tuesday 14 October.
