Noah Wyle, who plays Dr John Carter on TV series 'ER', has signed a one-year extension to his contract that will see his character back for the show's eleventh season in 2004-05.
The actor will also get the chance to step behind the camera when he directs two episodes of the medical drama next year.
Wyle, who is the only original 'ER' cast member, will take a break from the show this autumn to spend more time with his family.
