The Thrills make Mercury shortlist

Irish band The Thrills have made the shortlist for this year's Mercury Music Prize.

The five-piece band from Dublin released their debut album 'So Much For The City' in June. It features the singles 'Santa Cruz', 'One Horse Town' and 'Big Sur'.

They are joined by Radiohead and Coldplay who are joint favourites to take the prestigious prize.

Eight of the shortlisted releases are debut albums, although Martina Topley-Bird - nominated for her first album 'Quixotic' - sang on former nominee Tricky's 'Maxinquaye'.

Also nominated are soul duo Floetry for their debut 'Floetic'.

Garage act Dizzee Rascal finds himself on the shortlist little over a fortnight after he was stabbed in Ayia Napa.

Other stars shortlisted are Soweto Kinch, Lemon Jelly, The Darkness, Eliza Carthy, Athlete and Terri Walker.
