Raggy Boy to open Cork Film Festival

'Song For A Raggy Boy' is to have its Irish premiere at the 2003 Cork Film Festival.

The Irish-made film will open the festival on Sunday 12 October.

'Song For A Raggy Boy' tells the story of one man’s courage to stand up and fight the fascist regime in a boys’ Irish Reformatory School.

Set in 1939, William Franklin (Quinn) returns from the Spanish Civil War to the confining walls of a Catholic Reformatory School.

Battling to come to terms with the demons of his past, amongst the cruellest of punishment, abuse and neglect, it shows how one man can make a difference

'Song For A Raggy Boy' was directed by Aisling Walsh ('Joyriders') with a screenplay by Patrick Galvin, Aisling Walsh and Kevin Byron Murphy.

It will be released nationwide by Abbey Films on 17 October.
