Turkish author wins IMPAC award

Turkish author, Orhan Pamuk, has won this year's IMPAC Dublin Literary Award for his novel 'My Name Is Red'.

The world's richest literary award, it is worth €100,000 to the winner.

Pamuk's novel was chosen from an international shortlist of eight.

'My Name is Red' is described as a murder mystery but also a meditation on love and artistic devotion.

Pamuk lives in Istanbul. He is the author of six novels and the recipient of major Turkish and international literary awards. His work has been translated into more than twenty languages.

The International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award involves libraries from all corners of the globe, and is open to books written in any language.

The Award is a joint initiative of Dublin City Council, the Municipal Government of Dublin City, and the productivity improvement company IMPAC.

The Award is administered by Dublin City Public Libraries.

Last year's winner was French author Michel Houellebecq for his novel 'Atomised'.
