Singer June Carter Cash dies at 73

Grammy winner June Carter Cash, the wife of country giant Johnny Cash, has died in Nashville. She was 73.

The singer-songwriter died in hospital yesterday of complications from heart surgery. Her husband of 35 years was at her side.

June Carter Cash performed with Johnny Cash on the Grammy award-winning songs 'Jackson' (1967) and 'If I Were a Carpenter' (1970).

Co-writer of Cash's 1963 hit 'Ring of Fire', she also sang with him on 'It Ain't Me Babe' (1964) and 'If I Had a Hammer' (1972).

She is survive by her husband and son John Carter Cash as well as her daughter, the country singer Carlene Carter, and step-daughter, the singer Rosanne Cash.
