Rolling Stones in talks for Irish gig

Negotiations are at an advanced stage to bring the Rolling Stones to Ireland to play Landsdowne Road or The Point.

The Stones' latest tour, on the back of their highly successful '40 Licks' album, has been selling out rapidly. Its European leg, over June, July and August, is playing in 20 major cities.

The band has been playing a mixture of stadium gigs and smaller concert venues with the occasional intimate stint in clubs such as London's 4,000-seater Astoria.

MCD are negotiating with the band but have refused to comment to the media. However, 2FM News understands that the Rolling Stones are considering the option of a gig in Landsdowne road in May or later in the summer at the Point.

Landsdowne has a capacity of 40,000, while The Point can only cater for up to 8,000.

Once the show is confirmed, tickets for either venue are expected to sell out in a very short time. 270,000 tickets for three shows in London were all sold in three hours.

The Rolling Stones last played in Ireland in 1982 at Slane Castle.
