Rings director takes on King Kong

The director of the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, Peter Jackson, is to remake 1933 classic 'King Kong'.

Hollywood studio Universal announced today that Jackson will begin work on the film after the release of 'Lord of the Rings: The Return Of The King' this December.

The script for Jackson's remake will be based on the original story by Merian C Cooper and Edgar Wallace, in which a giant gorilla captured in the wild is brought to civilisation where he meets a tragic fate.

Jackson's 'King Kong' is set for release in 2005.
