Travolta toned up for Basic role

John Travolta has revealed that he had to tone up for his role in army thriller 'Basic'.

The actor told reporters, after training with real army rangers, he realised he looked too fat to be believable in the role.

'Basic' sees Travolta teamed with Samuel L Jackson for the first time since their Oscar-nominated performances in 1994's 'Pulp Fiction'.

Jackson plays a legendary commander who goes missing with several of his men. Travolta is a rogue DEA agent investigating the disappearance.

The film is due out in the US this weekend and will hit screens this side of the water in June.
