RTÉ stands over You're A Star song

RTÉ has said it stands over the results of the 'You're A Star' competition and will be submitting winner Mickey Joe Harte's performance as the Irish entry for the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest.

In a statement, RTÉ said it is "satisfied that, contrary to some recent public comment, the song is not a copy of the Eurovision 2000 winning Danish entry, 'Fly on the Wings of Love', written by Jurgen Olsen."

Mickey Joe Harte's act will be submitted to the European Broadcasting Union at a meeting of the Heads of Delegation on Thursday 20 March.

Kevin Linehan, Commissioning Editor, Music and Young People's programmes, who will represent RTÉ at the EBU forum on Thursday, said "1.3million people voted in the 'You're a Star' final on Saturday night. We want their chosen singer Mickey Joe and chosen song 'We've Got the World' to represent Ireland in the Eurovision in May."

He added, "We are satisfied that the song is an original composition. I will be bringing that song and that song only, as performed by Mickey Joe Harte, to the EBU on Thursday. We believe that Mickey Joe will be on stage in Riga on 24 May."
