New film school named after Huston

A new film school at NUI Galway is to be named in honour of the late director John Huston.

The Huston School is due to open in the Autumn and a gala banquet in Los Angeles in May will help raise scholarship funds.

The school will offer postgraduate training and education in both film and digital media, with special emphasis on the potential of new technologies for cinematic storytelling and documentary making.

Huston, who directed such classics as 'The Treasure of the Sierra Madre' and 'The African Queen', lived in Galway for many years from the 1950s onwards.

His daughter, Anjelica, said the school would "ensure that Ireland continues to bring its many creative talents to a world audience".
