U2 song nominated for Golden Globe

U2 have been nominated for a Golden Globe award in the category of Best Original Song in a Motion Picture for their track 'The Hands That Built America'.

The song appears in the new Martin Scorsese film 'Gangs of New York' which stars Daniel Day Lewis and Leonardo DiCaprio.

The other nominees in the same category were Madonna for the Bond theme 'Die Another Day', Hans Zimmer with Bryan Adams and Gretchen Peters for their song 'Here I Am' in 'Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron', Paul Simon's 'Father and Daughter' in 'The Wild Thornberries Movie' and 'Lose Yourself', Eminem's song for the film '8 Mile'.

Those who were nominated for Best Original Score - Motion Picture were Elmer Bernstein ('Far From Heaven'), Terence Blanchard ('25th Hour'), Peter Gabriel ('Rabbit Proof Fence'), Philip Glass ('The Hours') and Elliot Goldenthal ('Frida').

The Golden Globe award winners will be announced on 19 January.
