Bono for AIDS benefit in South Africa

Bono has confirmed that he will perform at a music concert hosted by former South African president, Nelson Mandela.

The concert is to raise money for South African AIDS victims and will take place on 2 February on Robben Island, where Mandela was imprisoned for almost 20 years.

Bono, Shaggy and Macy Gray are amongst the first stars to agree to perform at the show, which will be called 'Mandela SOS'.

Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Sting and Elton John have all been approached to play at the event.

An estimated 4.7 million South Africans - one in nine - are HIV positive.
