Metallica have officially begun their search for a replacement for bassist Jason Newsted who left last year.
The group made the announcement of the invite-only auditions via their official website.
Metallica had planned to look for a new bassist after they had completed their new album but have now abandoned that plan so as to avoid pressure once they wrap up the record.
They have already jammed with one hopeful and another is set to audition later this week.
Metallica have already finished seven tracks for their new album with producer Bob Rock handling bass duties.
The record is expected to reach shops in the late Spring or early Summer.
