TV presenter Angus Deayton has been sacked from BBC1 show 'Have I Got News You' with immediate effect.
The move follows more allegations about his private life. In a statement The BBC said his position as the presenter of the satirical show was untenable.
Co-star Paul Merton will stand-in for Deayton this week while a new host is sought.
In a statement Deayton said, "I'm very sorry to have been forced to leave a show that I've enjoyed immensely and has been part of my life for the past 12 years".
He said the talents of Paul Merton and Ian Hislop "will ensure that the show will continue entertaining millions each week."
"I sincerely wish the show well in the future and look forward to watchingthis Friday's episode ... from behind the sofa".
