Nolte's drug driving charges delayed

Actor Nick Nolte's plea on charges of drug driving has been delayed to allow for testing of blood samples.

The 61-year-old 'Prince of Tides' star has been charged with two misdemeanour offences of driving under the influence of the drug known as the date rape drug.

Nolte, who was not at the California hearing, has been told he can remain free if he abstains from alcohol, agrees to random drug testing and does not drive.

Speaking outside the court, the actor's lawyer described the charges as "ridiculous".

The arraignment hearing has been reset for 5 December.

Nolte, who has suffered from a drink problem in the past, checked himself into a rehabilitation centre after his arrest near his home in Malibu.

His new film, 'Hulk' – based on TV's Incredible Hulk character – is set for release next year.
