A US court has heard how Hollywood actress Winona Ryder arrived for a pre-Christmas shopping spree prepared to shoplift.
The 30-year-old star allegedly brought scissors, a large bag and tissue paper with her when she went to Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills.
Prosecutors allege she bought four items but stole a further 20, worth over $5,000.
Ryder, who denies the charges, claims she was preparing for a film role.
Her lawyer Mark Geragos has said the actress is being harassed. She is accused of removing security tags from around 20 items and then trying to leave the shop without paying for them.
The trial is expected to last for between five and seven days, but it is not yet known whether Ryder will give evidence during the trial.
