Judge asked to drop Winona drug charges

Prosecutors in Los Angeles have asked the judge in the Winona Ryder case to drop the drug charges against the actress.

Ryder, who is due in court next week, is accused of stealing goods from a department store in Los Angeles. She was also charged with illegal possession of drugs.

Her defence had provided the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office with a sworn statement that Ryder had received the pills from a doctor.

The judge is expected to make a ruling about the drugs charge on Tuesday when the actress is in court to stand trial for burglary, theft and vandalism.

Ryder has denied all charges.
