The man who killed John Lennon has lost his second bid for early release.
The former Beatle was shot dead by Mark David Chapman on the steps of his Manhattan apartment building in December 1980 as he was returning with his wife Yoko Ono from an evening recording session.
Chapman claimed he had heard voices in his head.
Today officials denied his second attempt to gain parole.
The 47-year-old killer is serving 20 years to life in Attica prison near New York.
A spokeswoman for the New York State Division of Parole said Chapman would be allowed to appeal again in two years' time.
Today would have been John Lennon's 62nd birthday.
