Brett Ratner, director of the upcoming 'Silence of the Lambs' prequel 'Red Dragon', is to helm a new Superman movie.
The Hollywood Reporter says the film is a "reimagination" of the comic hero and that the script was written with a view to making a trilogy of films.
Ratner has said that he would like to direct all three.
Last month, studio Warner Bros cancelled work on its 'Batman vs Superman' movie and it is understood that preproduction on the new film will begin immediately with a view to filming getting underway in the Spring.
'Red Dragon' is released in Ireland on 11 October.
