Computer animated hit movie 'Monsters Inc' reached sales of 5 million in the US on its first day of release on DVD and video, setting a new record.
The film beat Disney's 'The Lion King', which held the previous record with sales of 4.5 million units on its first day.
'Monsters Inc' features the voices of John Goodman and Billy Crystal and tells the story of how monsters harvest the screams of children in our world to power the city where they live.
Created by Pixar and released by Walt Disney in 2001, it won four Oscars in 2002 and was nominated for Best Animated Feature.
The DVD release also features a new short called 'Mike's New Car' and snippets of "unused scenes" from 'Monsters Inc'.
'Monsters Inc' tops the Irish box office chart on its release here last February.
