Oprah receives Humanitarian Award

Chat show queen Oprah Winfrey is to be the first recipient of the inaugural Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.

Winfrey set up her Oprah Winfrey Foundation 15 years ago to support women, children and families throughout America.

The award will be presented to her on 22 September at the 54th annual Emmy Awards by actor Tom Hanks.

Bryce Zabel, Chief Executive of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, described Winfrey as a "truly qualified individual whose deeds and actions have had a lasting impact".
