Barrymore pool death inquest begins

The inquest into the death of a man at the home of TV presenter Michael Barrymore in March 2001 got underway today.

Stuart Lubbock, a 31-year-old butcher from Essex, was found in the swimming pool at Barrymore's luxury bungalow in Roydon.

A group of men, including Lubbock had gone back with Barrymore to his home after a nightclub in Harlow.

A post-mortem revealed that Lubbock had drowned and that he had also suffered sexual injuries.

No charges were issued in relation to the death, but Barrymore was cautioned by police for possession of cannabis and for allowing the drug to be smoked at his home.

Barrymore was not present at today's hearing but is expected to give evidence later this week.
