Signs tops US box office again

Mel Gibson's latest film 'Signs' returned to the top of the US box office over the weekend knocking Vin Diesel's 'XXX' into second place.

'Signs' is the latest film from 'Sixth Sense' director M Night Shamalyan and stars Gibson as a clergyman whose family is plagued by crop circles and other unexplained events. It took $14.4m this weekend, making a total of $173.2m in its four weeks on release.

Vin Diesel's action thriller 'XXX', which held the top spot for two weeks, fell to number two with $13.7m . It has made $106.7m in total.

Other new releases this week failed to make a big impression at the box office: 'Serving Sara', a romantic comedy starring Liz Hurley and Matthew Perry, debuted at six with $6.1m; boxing drama 'Undisputed', starring Wesley Snipes, made $4.7m; while 'S1mone', a comedy about a film producer (Al Pacino) who casts a computer-generated actress in his latest movie, made just $4.0m.

'Signs' opens at cinemas across Ireland on 13 September.
