Inquiry into 100-year-old German director

German prosecutors have launched a judicial inquiry into Leni Riefenstahl, Hitler's favourite film-maker, on suspicion of Holocaust denial.

A spokesman for the public prosecutor's office in Frankfurt said it followed a complaint by a German Romany association.

Riefenstahl's two major works - 1934's 'Triumph of the Will' and her record of the 1936 Olympics staged in Berlin, 'Olympia' - are perceived as glorifying Nazi ideals.

The director celebrates her 100th birthday today.
