Popstars meets Eurovision on RTÉ

RTÉ and the company behind TV ratings hit 'Popstars' are set to launch a new talent search to find Ireland's next Eurovision entry.

The €1.7m TV show will use a similar format to the UK's 'Pop Idol' show in the search for new talent to represent Ireland in the Europe-wide song contest.

Shinawil Productions say top Irish songwriters will be commissioned to pen tracks, which will be performed by the finalists and then voted on by members of the public.

The winning act will also be offered an international recording deal.

Auditions for 'You're A Star' will take place at nine locations around the country including Dublin, Derry, Belfast, Cork, and Galway.

The show will be broadcast over 20 weeks beginning on RTÉ 1 on Sunday 27 October.

Ireland was knocked out of the list of countries eligible for Eurovision entry this year after Gary O'Shaughnessy bagged the country's worst score ever with just six points last year.
