US filmmaker Penelope Spheeris is to direct a film based around the story of the Sex Pistols' frontman Johnny Rotten (John Lydon) and the rise of punk rock in England.
The Hollywood Reporter says that the film will be based upon Lydon's autobiography 'Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs'.
Spheeris, whose films include the seminal 1981 LA punk documentary 'The Decline of Western Civilisation' and 'Wayne's World', said that she felt Lydon had not got credit for all his work with the Sex Pistols.
She added that it was time their story was told from his perspective.
