U2 lead singer Bono and former US president Bill Clinton were the guests of honour at the Academy of Achievement summit in Dublin last night.
The Irish writer Frank McCourt, US musician Quincy Jones, actors James Earl Jones and Jeremy Irons and the first man to run a sub-four-minute mile, Sir Roger Bannister joined big names from the world of politics, medicine and entertainment at the event.
A US-based organisation, the Academy of Achievement was set up four decades ago and aims to bring men and women of "exceptional accomplishment" together with 200 international college graduates.
The academy believes it can "inspire youth with new dreams of achievement in a world of boundless opportunity".
Clinton and Bono took part in a question and answer session with students from universities all around the world last night.
The summit continues until Sunday.
