John Thaw's widow Sheila Hancock collected a posthumous award from viewers for his work on ITV's drama 'Buried Treasure' at the TV Baftas last night.
She said that her husband, who died two months ago from cancer, would have been overwhelmed at the great wave of love shown to family since his death.
Other winners included 'The Office', which took two prizes, and ITV's 'Pop Idol', which landed best entertainment show.
Graham Norton took best entertainment performance for the third year running, beating Pop Idol hosts Ant and Dec to the prize at London's Theatre Royal.
