Mark Wahlberg is to star in the Hollywood remake of 60's classic 'The Italian Job'.
Variety reports that Wahlberg is reprising Michael Caine's role as Charlie Croker, the career criminal who sets up an audacious gold heist.
But while the robbery in the original took place in Italy, the remake will begin in Europe before the action moves to Los Angeles.
The new version, directed by F Gary Gray ('The Negotiator'), is also said to tone down the original's humour in favour of a grittier approach.
But the Mini Cooper cars will still have a major role in the story.
Shooting begins in early August.
