The late actor John Thaw is up against fellow screen detective David Jason for the Lew Grade television BAFTA.
ITV's 'Buried Treasure' faces David Jason's ITV show 'A Touch of Frost' for the award.
Last year the prize went to Thaw's long-running popular series 'Inspector Morse'. 'A Touch of Frost' won the Lew Grade award in 1998 and again in 2000.
This is the only television BAFTA voted for by members of the public.
Three BBC One shows are also nominated for the award: soap 'EastEnders', David Attenborough's natural history series 'The Blue Planet' and sitcom 'My Family', with Jasper Carrott.
The awards ceremony will take place at the Theatre Royal, in London's Drury Lane, on 21 April.
