None of the four Irish Oscar nominees were successful at the 74th Academy Awards in Los Angeles last night.
In the Animated Short Film category Ruairí Robinson and Seamus Byrne had been nominated for 'Fifty Percent Grey' and Cathal Gaffney and Darragh O'Connell for 'Give Up Your Aul Sins'. The Ralph Eggleston directed 'For The Birds' won the Oscar.
Enya, who had been nominated in the Best Song category for her song 'May It Be' from the 'Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring' soundtrack lost out to Randy Newman's 'If I Didn't Have You' from the animated film 'Monsters, Inc'.
Belfast's Peter Devlin, nominated for Best Sound for 'Pearl Harbor', also went home empty handed when 'Black Hawk Down' won in that category.
