The Secretary of the US Treasury has invited U2 frontman Bono to travel with him to Africa, to examine ways in which the international community can assist development projects there.
Paul O'Neill said he hoped the Irish singer's celebrity status would help focus international attention on the issues facing developing countries.
The timing of the journey has not been finalised, although Bono says he hopes the trip will take place within a couple of months.
